RESTORE PEACE AND BEAUTY

MONARCH CATERPILLAR HAWAIIHAWAII BUTTERFLY
Hawai'i is experiencing a 75% decline in Monarch butterflies
We made a promise to help a delicate creature to continue to survive in the Hawaiian Islands...our enchanting Pulelehua. We continue to inform, support and connect butterfly caretakers to information, resources and each other. But we cannot do it alone. There are countless ways to help, including making a personal gift, growing a butterfly habitat or volunteering your time. With your help, we have the power to make a difference, live in beauty, while sharing 'precious moments' together. Without the commitment of those who believe in the spirit of the butterfly, the Pulelehua Project could hardly fulfill our many requests from those wishing to experience their presence and blessings. As a volunteer, you will receive the unmatched feeling of fulfillment that comes with bringing joy to many.

Hawaiian Butterfly Release

The key to the Monarch butterfly's survival in Hawai'i, is the CROWN FLOWER. It is the only plant that eggs are laid upon and the exclusive source food for our caterpillars. In the past, this sacred flower was honored as precious to Queen Lili'uokalani, as were the blessings of the butterfly. Neighbors and ohana shared cuttings, planted nectar flowers and watched in awe as they witnessed a living process of total transformation...the magical gift of the "pulelehua". Destruction of natural habitats by new developments, overuse of pesticides, new predatory species of lizards and general lack of awareness have all contributed to this unacceptable disappearance. There are many levels of commitment you can enjoy to help the Monarch Butterfly...an essential pollinator to the eco-system of our beloved Islands. Here is a guide of do-it-yourself suggestions.
In reality, what you can do is limitless ... just like your imagination!
Already grow CROWN FLOWERS?
  • Make stem cuttings and give them to everyone
  • PLANT MORE...add bunches of nectar flowers and watch your garden grow into a sanctuary...for butterflies and you!
  • Inspire Others: Send us an email - take pictures - tell us your story to share on our web site

As you create and restore a thriving habitat that supports our Monarch butterflies, you will ensure that your environment remains healthy for you and your ohana. The pulelehua is the "canary" of natural balance. As you have hands-on experiences of finding safe solutions to depleted soil and destructive predators, you will be actively caring for the aina as well. And by learning about our native plants, you will renew your connection with the delicate and natural world of Hawai'i Nei.
